Olukayode AyoOluwa AFOLABI, Ph.D has been elected President of the Nigerian Psychological Association. Afolabi, a Professor of Social/Personality Psychology was the Head of Departments of Psychology at both Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State and Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria. He was also the Dean, Faculty of Social and Management Sciences; Director, Centre for Basic and Part-Time Studies; Director, Leadership Institute for Public Policy and Sustainable Development and currently the Director, General Studies Unit of the Adekunle Ajasin University in Nigeria.
Before his election, Afolabi has served the Association in many different capacities which includes Editor-in-Chief of the Association Journals, South West Nigeria Coordinator, Vice-President 1 and Chairman, Membership Committee. He was also chairman of many other committees before he was elected President during the 2021 Annual General Meeting of the Association in Enugu, Enugu State, Nigeria on August 8, 2021. He was sworn in during a special AGM in Abuja on November 8, 2021.
Afolabi’s research interests centre on personality assessments, emotional intelligence and prosocial behavior and has provided training in many local and international workshops. He has authored more than 70 research articles in both local and international journals and has co-edited 7 books.
Afolabi, received his B.Sc (Hons.), M.Sc and Ph.D Psychology from Nigeria’s Premier University of Ibadan.
Currently, he is on theological training at the African Church College of Theology, Lagos, Nigeria where he is also providing psychological assistance to church members in distress, trauma, depression etc. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Psychological Association.
